Connected Intensive Care Unit

July 2014 – A project by Philipp Schmitt and me.

We created a scenario for a Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which makes use of connected Devices. We wanted to improve the situation for patients, relatives and medical staff alike.

The result is headphone-based system which enables the sounds of an ICU's medical devices to be personally addressable. This way it becomes quieter for everyone and everybody only hear the sounds meant for them. The nurses hear the alarms of their patients, but patients and relatives don't have to listen to any alarm sounds.

This way they are able to relax as much as possible and won't get stressed out whenever something happens inside the ICU, which improves their recovery.
